The State of Origin football game may have contributed to the attendance of only a small percentage of visitors to the Lodge Enterprise No.400 meeting on Wednesday night, 5th June, but it did not stop the enthusiasm of those present.
The work of the evening was an explanation of the 1st Degree Working Tools by Wor. Bro. Philip Holden, after which the musical brethren played a couple of old time favourite melodies. After the opening of the Lodge in the 2nd Degree, Bro. Paul Harden presented the 2nd Degree Working Tools and Wor. Bro. David Padgett explained the 2nd Tracing Board. The musicians then played another couple of favourite tunes which the brethren responded to with a round of loud applause.
Our Wor. Master V. Wor. Bro. Barry Stephenson was presented with his 50th Year Certificate by Rt. Wor. Bro. Richard Bell PSGW. V. Wor. Bro Stephenson was initiated into Lodge Ferndale No.400, (now Lodge Enterprise No.400) on the 1st of May 1963 as a Lewis. The certificate arrived too late to present it to him at the last meeting which was held on the exact day of his Initiation 50 year ago. V.Wor.Bro. Stephenson thanked Rt. Wor. Bro. Bell for his presentation and he then addressed the brethren with words of how he still remembers the night of his joining Freemasonry and on how fast the years have gone by. He had followed in the path of his father who became Lodge Ferndale’s Secretary. Barry also became that Lodge’s Secretary and was deeply involved with the consolidation of the lodges that ultimately became Lodge Enterprise No.400.
In the absence of Rt. Wor. Bro. Raymond Pattinson, the Worshipful Master presented to the brethren Wor. Bro. Warren Dews and Bro. Sam Dalzell, celebrating their birthdays this month. He also mentioned the brethren who were not able to attend and who were also celebrating their birthdays. The response by the brethren was a rousing version of the Birthday Song.
After further words of thanks to the members and visitors for their attendance, the W. Master closed the Lodge and all adjourned to the festive board to partake of coq-au-vin, prepared in the caterer’s own recipe, followed by a delicious dessert.
