Lodge Mayfield No 493 January Meeting
Once again Freemasonry proved itself to be the world’s Brotherhood of Man when Lodge Mayfield shared the friendship that exists between Masons, when two visiting brethren from the U.K. attended the daylight meeting on the 14th January at the Masonic Centre in New Lambton.
V. Wor. Bro. Neil Mayo presented a very interesting talk on his travels through Switzerland, assisted by photo slides of the beautiful scenery of that country. V. Wor. Bro. Mayo said that the only disappointing thing about the journey was that on occasions cloud, mist and snow robbed some of the beauty from the scenes. Many of the members and visitors who have visited Switzerland said that was often the case as the Swiss Alps are nearly always covered in cloud, mist and snow.
At the conclusion of the talk, the Worshipful Master Wor. Bro. Bob Lyons, thanked the English visitors for their presence and asked them to give a short talk on English Freemasonry. Wor. Bro. Jeffrey Smith of Lodge Pharos No. 7421 gave a talk on one of the lectures that he was involved in that has travelled widely around the United Kingdom and Italy. The lecture named Building of King Solomon’s Temple has raised a large amount of money in its travels. Most of this money has gone to Masonic charities. Since its inception in 1983 the presentation has been performed 511 time. You can see an item on it at:
Wor. Bro. John Redpath also spoke and he talked about the various Grand Provincial Lodges and the United Grand Lodge of England and how the Royal Family is involved with Freemasonry.
After both brethren had concluded their talks, the Wor. Master once again thanked all present for their attendance. He then closed the Lodge in Peace, Love and Harmony and all retired to the South where Wor. Bro. Redpath continued his talk, and the usual toasts presented and responses made. The morning seemed to pass too quickly and the Junior Warden’s Toast ended this wonderful morning of fellowship.
