District 14 Christmas Hampers Presentation
– 18th December, 2014
by V.Wor. Bro. Barry Stephenson
For many years Freemasons of District 41 in Newcastle, NSW have been donating Christmas Hampers to local worthy charities. In September 2014, District 41 had a name change to District 14 to incorporate lodges of the Newcastle and Port Stephens areas. At the same time, a new leader of District 14 was appointed, namely Very Worshipful Brother David Marshall, District Grand Inspector of Workings (DGIW).
The charity nominated by V.Wor. Bro. Marshall for 2014 was the Samaritans, based in Warabrook Bvde., Warabrook. Each Lodge of the District collected appropriate foodstuffs and toiletries from their members and a small truckload was gathered, as well as a financial contribution.
Due to the absence of the DGIW owing to work commitments, the collection and delivery to the Samaritans was left to the District 14 Secretary, Mrs. Gail Marshall (David’s mother) and partner Bro. Ron Treay. They were met at Warabrook by the District 14 Treasurer, V.Wor. Bro. Barry Stephenson and Wor. Bro. Arthur Rolph of Lodge Enterprise.
After the huge stack of donated goods were placed under the Christmas tree in the Samaritan’s foyer V.Wor. Stephenson formally made the donation to Ms. Cheryl Price, a Director of the Samaritans. Ms. Price thanked the Freemasons of District 14 for their overwhelming donation and generosity. Finally she extended the Compliments of the Season to one and all.
