From the Master’s Chair January 2015

Brethren, Lodge Enterprise No.400 has started 2015 the same way that we ended 2014. That is with another fantastic meeting: a meeting that was well attended both by members and visitors. We would have normally held a Burns Night but, as our meeting fell on Australia Day, it was only natural for us to have a Celebration of Australia Night. Iconic Australian poetry was presented by Wor. Bro. Danny Marks and Wor. Bro. Darryl Hayes from Lodge Benjamin Pryor. Bush poetry and tales were told, and Australian musical items such as “Pub with no Beer”, “Road to Gundagai” and several others were ably presented by our marvellous musicians. It was great to see Bro. Garnett Bryant back playing his violin again after suffering a stroke.

In the South we had more poetry and a special performance by 12 members and visitors, thanks to Very Wor. Bro. Barry Stephenson, of “12 Parts of Australia Day” (based on the 12 Days of Christmas).  Instead of having “A Partridge in a Pear Tree” we had an “Emu up a Gum Tree” and so on. It was very well received by all present.

As Lodge Membership Officer I gave a report on the health of Lodge Enterprise. In this report I informed the brethren present that over the 12 months of 2014 Lodge Enterprise had a total of 357 member attendances which averaged 37.2% of our total membership per meeting. We had 157 visitors over the year with an average of 13.8 visitors per meeting. This is an excellent result but it could also be better.

To those brethren who do not attend, please give some thought to attending, even if it is once or twice a year. And to those brethren who have called off, you can still attend a lodge twice a year. Come and renew old friendships and, if you need assistance with transport, all you have to do is ring me or any other officer to arrange transport to and from Lodge.

Our February meeting will be the Raising of Bro. Mark Wolff. Practice nights are Mondays 2nd and 16th of February.
