Lodge Enterprise No.400 Defibrillator Training Course

by V.Wor.Bro. Barry Stephenson

Lodge Enterprise 400 recently installed a defibrillator at its New Lambton Masonic Centre in Newcastle. A defibrillator applies electric shocks to the heart in the case of cardiac arrest and is a very useful modern tool in saving lives.

To give tenants of the Masonic Centre a better understanding and confidence in the correct use of the unit, 2 or 3 representatives of each of the centre’s tenants were invited to attend the training. In this way it is hoped that at least one person experienced in the knowledge of its use would be available if it was ever required to be used. Which, of course, we hope never happens.

Two training sessions were conducted by Greg Blume, Clinical Training Officer of the Hunter-New England Ambulance Service, on Saturday 14th and Thursday 19th March, 2015 with a total attendance of 40.

The Wor. Master of Lodge Enterprise, Wor. Bro. Arthur Rolph thanked Greg for his excellent presentations which included a short video on the model of defibrillator purchased and a practical demonstration given on “George” a medical mannequin, including the latest CPR techniques. A wide variety of questions from those present was also skilfully answered.

Lodge Enterprise No.400 is proud to be the first Lodge in the Newcastle area to have provided a defibrillator for its many tenants.
