Lodge Mayfield No. 493 – 2015 Christmas Meeting

Lodge Mayfield No 493 held its Christmas Celebration Meeting on Tuesday the 8th December, 2015 tyling at 9.30am. Members, ladies, family and friends were invited to attend.

Rt. Wor. Bro. Neil Mewett and the Hawkins Village Singers were invited to entertain those present where Rt. Wor. Bro. Mewett featured on the organ and Mrs. Anne Boyce played the electronic keyboard for the Singers. This was the fifteenth year that the Hawkins Village Singers has accepted Lodge Mayfield’s invitation to attend.

The first part of the Hawkins Village Singers program comprised musical items from the Musical Hall era with favourite songs of the late ninetieth and early twentieth centuries.

During the break an address to “The Spirit of Christmas” was delivered by Mr. Ron Elliott, a retired funeral celebrant, and it was very well received.

The second half of the musical program was a number of Christmas Carols  and songs with plenty of audience participation.

At the conclusion of the program the audience gave the Hawkins Village Singers a rousing ovation, after which the Wor. Master, Wor. Bro. Frank Wilson, thanked Rt. Wor. Bro. Mewett and the Singers for their performance. He also thanked all for their attendance and invited them to the Christmas Celebration lunch.

Before partaking of the lunch, the District Grand Inspector of Workings of District 14, V. Wor. Bro. David Marshall presented to a representative of “The Samaritans” the Christmas hampers of food and toiletries that members of the Lodges of District 14 had donated to this worthy course. The Samaritans representative then responded by thanking the Freemasons of District 14 for their generosity. In all, eight large Christmas hamper baskets were assembled as well as a cheque for $165 in cash donations.

This was the second year of hamper donations to The Samaritans by District 14 lodges and the support of Freemasons of the area has been very much appreciated by this local charity.
