At the end of the march

Forming up for the march

Getting a warm reception from the public

by V. Wor. Bro. Barry Stephenson

At the suggestion of Bro. Alex Ward, Lodge Enterprise took part for the first time in the ANZAC Day Commemoration Ceremonies at New Lambton, a suburb of Newcastle, NSW.

In warm sunny weather, 6 members of Lodge Enterprise assembled at the New Lambton Swimming Centre at 9.30am. They were the WM, Wor. Bro. Geoff Williams, DC, Wor. Bro. Arthur Rolph, V.Wor. Bros. Barry Stephenson and Brian Stephens, Wor. Bro. Philip Holden and Bro. Mark Wolff. Mrs. Desma Stephens also attended. A large crowd of local residents, schoolchildren, and special groups was present and the organisation by the local RSL was exceptional.

After a brief ceremony and wreath laying at the pool’s Memorial Entrance, marchers were assembled in Durham Road for the short march to the Lambton Park Bowling Club. Dispensation had been received for masonic regalia to be worn and the Enterprise contingent following the ex-servicemen looked resplendent as they marched.

The Bowling Club quickly filled to overflowing for the main ANZAC Service which commenced at 10.45am. An excellent service was appreciated by all and included an Anzac Address by Lt. Col. Jodie Lording. A wreath laying by a large number of groups including Lodge Enterprise was conducted as well as singing of the Royal Anthem, the Australian Nation Anthem and the New Zealand National Anthem.

Proceedings concluded at 11.45am and all present then went their various ways.

For those members of Lodge Enterprise in attendance, this inaugural attendance as a Masonic Lodge was considered highly successful, as demonstrated by the way the we were well received and the number of enquiries made by non-members.
